Mr. Dorn Biography
Hello St. Mark Lions!
My name is Tyler Dorn. I graduated from MLC in 2014, double majoring in elementary education and physical education. I was a two sport athlete in college, playing football and baseball all four years. I married my high school sweet heart, Katelynn Dorn (Steinke), who also graduated from MLC majoring in Science, in the summer of 2014. At graduation, my wife received a divine call to Nebraska Lutheran High School (NELHS). She was 'the' science teacher there and will be a helpful resource to me this year.
My first year in Nebraska, I worked as a paraprofessional working with students who have special needs. After that school year, I worked construction for the next 3 years in home remodeling. Last school year, NELHS called me to be their P.E, Strength Training teacher and Athletic Director. I was the head Varsity Boys basketball coach for 4 years, and assisted with NELHS football and York baseball. During our time in Nebraska, I wore my Wisconsin clothes to every Husker event, grew fond of watching corn grow, and was blessed to have our first child born there.
The reason for our move is that my wife received a call to Fox Valley Lutheran High School early November. We settled into an apartment building in Appleton. I'm used to a longer commute though because to get to a bigger town in Nebraska, on average, took almost an hour.
I like to call myself a Rennaissance Man. I enjoy all types of hobbies and activities- traveling, hiking, camping, sports, hunting, watching all types of movies and shows. Being from Wisconsin, my wife and I are always ready to encounter the next brewery Wisconsin has to offer. My most recent hobby has been photography.
My favorite sports teams are all in Wisconsin. Being able to teach next to my "earthly heaven," Lambeau Field, makes me smile everytime I drive past going to St. Mark and on my drive home. So if you have any tickets available, my wife and I will surely take them off your hands.
